How Therapy Works
What tends to indicate progress, beyond how a session felt.
A session can feel productive without being productive, and a session can feel uncomfortable while doing real work. Feeling good in the room is not a reliable measure of whether therapy is working, which surprises a lot of people.
Real change tends to include periods where things feel harder before they feel easier, especially when a longstanding coping pattern starts to loosen. That's usually a sign something real is happening, not a sign it's failing. Part of my job is helping you tell the difference between productive discomfort and a genuine mismatch that needs adjusting.
We can talk about what progress would realistically look like for you.
