Secure Attachment
A term that gets used a lot, and often not very precisely.
Reparenting refers to the process of giving yourself, consistently, what you didn't reliably get from caregivers growing up, things like validation, consistency, or a felt sense that your needs matter.
It's not about blaming parents, and it's not a literal reparenting of a younger version of yourself in a dramatic sense. It's a practical process of building new internal responses to old needs that didn't get met the first time around.
In session, this often means noticing an old pattern as it comes up and practicing a different, more supportive internal response in real time. The therapeutic relationship itself often becomes part of this process, since it can offer a consistent, reliable experience that builds new expectations over time.
